GTA VI is getting a Collector’s Edition priced at 400 euros. But is it worth it?

Rockstar Games announced today *The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection*, a new collector's pack dedicated to *Grand Theft Auto VI* and inspired by Leonida and the fictional TV show *Macca the Gator*. Rockstar is presenting it as a limited-edition Collector’s Box, and pre-orders are already available, with shipments scheduled to begin on November 19.

And yes, before we go any further, we need to mention the most important thing: the collection costs 399.99 euros and does not include a copy of the game. Grand Theft Auto VI must be purchased separately.

I’ll admit I was expecting something like this. Basically, every major Rockstar release in recent years has included products or editions dedicated to collectors, and the fact that Red Dead Redemption 2 had its own Collector’s Box without the game included made me expect the same strategy for GTA VI.

What I didn't expect, though, was the price.

400 euros for a set of collectibles seems like an enormous amount to me. We’re talking about over 2,000 lei for a box that, at least in my opinion, doesn’t offer enough value for the asking price.

What do you get for 400 euros?

Rockstar has included quite a few items in the box. There’s a Macca the Gator figurine, a pair of Oakley Frogskins sunglasses with Prizm Sapphire lenses, a Leonida Keys crossbody bag, and a New Era 9FORTY A-Frame cap featuring elements inspired by Vice City and Leonida.

In addition to these, we also have a magnetic mirror featuring Macca the Gator, a shot glass featuring Chunkee the Manatee, a Vice City cocktail spoon, a keychain, a set of pins in a metal box, a pack of stickers, and a poster featuring the complete map of Leonida.

I have to admit that some of the products in the collection are actually interesting. The Oakley sunglasses, for example, are genuine, and the Frogskins models with Prizm Sapphire lenses are priced on the Oakley website at around 130–140 euros, depending on the version. And the New Era cap is a product that, at first glance, doesn’t seem at all out of the ordinary for the official merchandise of a franchise of this size.

Even if we factor in the glasses, the cap, the bag, and the other items, I still find it hard to see where nearly 400 euros is justified. The figurine is relatively small; we get a shot glass, a mirror, a teaspoon, pins, stickers, a keychain, and a poster. There are a lot of items, but I don’t feel like we have that “wow factor” I was expecting from a collection dedicated to what is probably the most anticipated game of this generation.

And here comes the part that's a little painful for me.

I’ve been waiting for this Collector’s Edition—if we can call it that—almost as much as I’ve been waiting to find out what else Rockstar has in store for GTA VI. I was almost 100% sure I’d buy it. Honestly, even the price of 400 euros would have been acceptable to me if I’d found content inside the box that I found truly impressive.

But after taking a good look at what we get for this money, I can say that I, for one, don't think it's worth it.

I'm not saying the products are bad. On the contrary, the Oakley sunglasses, the bag, the cap, and some of the collectibles are actually pretty cool. The problem is the value you get for the price you pay.

For 400 euros, I was expecting a much more impressive figurine, more truly exclusive items, or perhaps even something that would make this collection a piece worth keeping as the centerpiece of a GTA collection. As it stands, it strikes me as a collection of very expensive merchandise.

The Goodtime State – Vice City Collection is available in limited quantities through the Rockstar Store, but there’s a major issue for us here in Romania: Rockstar does not currently offer direct shipping to our country. This means that if you want to buy the collection, you’ll need a way to order from one of the European countries where Rockstar officially ships. At the same time, Rockstar says that more GTA VI-inspired apparel and collectibles will be announced in the near future.

For me, the verdict is pretty simple: I won’t be buying this collection. I’ve taken the time to carefully consider what you get for those 400 euros, and as it stands, I don’t think it’s worth it. That doesn’t mean, however, that I’m giving up on the idea of buying GTA VI merchandise. On the contrary, I’ll save those 400 euros in the hope that Rockstar will announce other products in the near future, and maybe I’ll find a T-shirt, a jacket, or something else that I like enough to say it’s worth the money.
